Services and Pricing

Nightmedia is an open-source company. We are not a non-profit, just open source. All our services are the subject of a charge, depending on the way you want to do business with us. If you need help with implementing some of our scripts, or design your own special application, we can help.

Unless otherwise specified, the script downloads available on this site are free. There is no support or warranty implied. Please refer to our FAQ list and to our message board for questions regarding implementation.

In order to install the scripts, we will need ftp access to your site. If you do not wish or cannot give us access, we can set up the script on our server, test it, and you will have to either install it yourself, or ask your ISP/webmaster to do that for you.

There are different ways you can get things planned/programmed/implemented by Nightmedia. The legalese (small print) involved will be provided soon, we chose to display here the summary:

Method 1 - Implementation of existing scripts:

We offer installation service, or customization of scripts.

  • You choose a script from our offerings, or provide us with one of your choice.
  • We give you a quote upon which you have to agree and pay the half in advance.
  • You provide us with FTP access to your site
  • We upload and configure the script, make customizations conform to the project.
  • We offer a limited support, to the extent of eliminating bugs for your particular implementation. If you modify/customize certain modules, you have to keep track of your changes, document them and notify us prior to any support request.
  • With the exception of bugfixes in the frame described above, we will charge for implementing any further improvements to the scripts.

The hourly fees for this programming method are $80.

Method 2 - Open-source contributor, credits for the idea:

The script is open-source. You cannot sell it, unless we agree on a commision.
We hold the credits for the software, clearly displayed in all the Perl modules.
Your name will appear in the credits, as the one with the idea.

  • You choose a script from our offerings that you want modified, or provide us with a project guideline.
  • We give you a quote upon which you have to agree and pay the half in advance. Note that the quote in this case will be given considering the value of your idea as an open-source script.
  • We program the script, make sure it does what you describe in the project.
  • We offer a limited support, to the extent of eliminating bugs and documenting the script on our web page. If you modify/customize certain modules, you have to keep track of your changes, document them and notify us prior to any support request.
  • With the exception of bugfixes, we will charge for implementing any further improvements to the scripts.
  • We hold the rights to distribute the script ourselves, as necessary, free or for a charge, which we will determine at the appropriate time. If you want, we will exchange links with you, referring to your implementation as one of our projects.

The hourly fees for this programming method are $100.

Method 3 - Open-source contributor, with rights to the product:

  • If we end up charging for selling the script as a software product, you will receive a part of the price as commision, depending on the agreement made at the beginning.

The hourly fees for this programming method are $120

Method 4 - Ownership and collaboration:

The script is your property. You own it. You sell it.
We hold the credits for the software, clearly displayed in all the Perl modules.

  • You provide us with a project guideline.
  • We give you a quote upon which you have to agree and pay the half in advance.
  • We program the script, make sure it does what you describe in the project.
  • We reserve us the right to use some generic modules for the codebase, which will avoid reinventing the wheel. Such modules as the EPI, MainLib, FormLib, will only help reduce the amount of time invested in your project.
  • We offer a limited support, to the extent of eliminating bugs and documenting the whole thing as extensive as you need to understand its internals. If you modify/customize certain modules, you have to keep track of your changes, document them and notify us prior to any support request.
  • With the exception of bugfixes, we will charge for implementing any further improvements to the scripts.
  • We will not redistribute the script, but will exchange links with you, referring to this script as our brainchild. If you want us to distribute the script at a certain price, we will charge a commision, upon which we will agree at the start of the project.
  • We reserve the right to advertise the script as part of our portfolio.

The hourly fees for this programming method are $140.

Method 5- Complete ownership:

The script is your property. You own it. You sell it. Put your name on it. Do what you please.

If you modify/customize certain modules, you have to keep track of your changes, document them and notify us prior to any support question.
  • With the exception of bugfixes, we will charge for implementing any further improvements to the scripts.

The hourly fees for this programming method are $160.

For each of the methods listed above, we offer monthly maintenance fees, which could cover anything from data import-export to graphic design.

The fees are variable with the amount of workload, and they can be anywhere between $100 a month for simple maintenance tasks, to something like $2000 a month for total design, implementation, maintenance and support for an enterprise site.

The maintenance fees will be determined after evaluating the workload involved, are payable in advance for the payment period, and can be paid by agreement, monthly, quarterly, or yearly.

For example, to implement a simple form submit script, we will charge 1 hour, while for a simple shop installation we will charge 4 hours worth of work. Of course, that does not include any customizing, since we assume that you will be able to do that yourself.

Always ask precise details of implementation if you want a realistic quote.

If you need help changing the layout, the database structure, or any other customization, you will have to define or help define the scope of work, and we will give an estimate.

If you request changes that are not in the scope of work, we will, again, estimate the workload, and you will have to agree to that before we start anything in that direction.

The fee is payable in advance, on an estimate basis, unless other specified. Please contact us with your needs, we will refine the requirements and shape up a project timeline and cost, and you will pay us at least the half of the amount in advance, the rest at the job completion.

Please email us with the details of your implementation.

Make sure to specify the Site URL, the Operating system and version, your Perl version, the root path to your cgi-bin, as well as other details that we should be aware of, in order to give you a realistic estimate. If the conversation requires phone communication, you call us.
